Hidden down Cow Lane is The Bunker. One of New Zealand’s best-kept secrets, this venue began as a one-bedroom apartment above Bunker Restaurant, and has now been transformed into an after-hours lounge. For entree try the soup of the day followed by the Canter Valley quail ‘Kiev’ with charred asparagus, pancetta, quail egg, watercress, and truffle jus and for main leap into the Roasted Silver Fern Reserve rib eye and slow braised short rib with bone marrow gratin, smoked tomato mousse, wild watercress and porcini jus. As a side dish the truffle mash croquettes are a must here.
